Hey there!
Just got back from spending Easter with my parents in Poland, and wow - I'm amazed at how much progress kids can make in just two weeks of language immersion!
My younger daughter totally blew me away. She went from using single words to making complete sentences practically overnight! The other day she showed me how her thinking is getting more complex too. When I said "babcia (grandma) might be in the bathroom," she immediately replied, "No, auntie is in the bathroom." I was stunned!
It wasn't just language gains either. My older daughter, who has NEVER been able to sit still long enough to finish coloring a picture, suddenly discovered levels of focus I hadn't seen before.
The coolest part? After coming back home and spending their first day back in daycare, both girls seem more outspoken than usual - even in German, which they hadn't heard for two weeks! My little one is now repeating everything after everyone.
So if you feel like you've hit a wall with your kids' language development, here's my simple advice: find the next free slot in your calendar and book a trip back home. Trust me, it'll be worth it!
Have you noticed similar language jumps after visits to family?
Drop me a note - I'd love to hear!
